Costa Rica Mission Trip June 30 - July 7

Ministry Day 1 - by Bob & Cody
Costa Rica - July 1, 2009
Today we visited Pastor Pablo and the
Iglesia De Dios- Palabra De Vida church
near San Isidro.  In the morning, we worked
on painting walls in the church and worked
with neighborhood children doing a Vacation
Bible School.  In the afternoon, we worked
with the children through a soccer clinic.  The
kids and us really had a great time with the
games and playing soccer.  In the evening,
we went to the service at Pastor’ Pablo’s
church.  We were absolutely amazed with
the service.  It was a very special service
with a passionate message and songs (two of which featured our own Jerry Young on bass!)  The
people were great and were very welcoming to our team.  It was a tiring first day of missionary work, but
it was also productive and we are hopeful that we were able to reach some of the people we were with
today.
Well, now that Bobby has his paragraph done, I think I'll start mine. Today was just really a great eye
opening day. We started off this morning by waking up early and me and Bobby went and played a little
soccer - then we got to work.  We went to Pastor Pablo's church and just played with the kids around the
area as well as painting the walls with Jerry and Jack.  After that we had a soccer clinic for the kids and
since there was a school nearby it seemed like they were just coming in waves.  IT was a great time and
God truly blessed us cause it started to rain which made all of us have to go in this room that was really
close together so Bobby and I gave a testimony.  Tonight we went to Pastor Pablo's church for evening
service and it was just amazing. God is doing some great things through them.  The emotion and just the
way they feel him is amazing. It truly was a great time.

Ministry Day 2 - by Aaron & Cyndi
Costa Rica - July 2, 2009

Buenos dias!  Today is Thursday, July 2, 2009.
We had lots of plans for today… go to
breakfast at Los Chorros, go to the orphanage,
go to the grocery and buy the food to feed the
indios families in the mountains, sort the
ministry suitcases for the 2 villages, pack up
the food individually that we bought for the
families, and go to another church that Pastor
Pablo has in Vista Mar to hold a vacation bible
school for the children and see a church
service there.

We drove part of the way up the mountain to have breakfast in a small restaurant that overhangs off the
side of the mountain that has views that words cannot describe.  Photos of the views can’t come close
to the beautiful and glorious works of God’s creations; they are simply breath-taking.  We arrived to have
breakfast at 7:30 a.m. but soon learned that the restaurant didn’t open for 30 more minutes, but all was
well.

After breakfast we drove back down the mountain and took in some more breath-taking views on the
way back to the hotel.  We also sorted the ministry suitcases for the 2 villages for the indios people and
after that we left for the orphanage.  When we arrived at the orphanage, the children were still in school
taking tests and wouldn’t return for 30 more minutes, but all was well.  When they did arrive, we held a
vacation bible school event with crafts of salvation bracelets, boomerang decorating, and coloring
pages.  Cody and Bob played soccer with the children and then we had a tour of the orphanage and
LaVonne gave her testimony.

After the orphanage we stopped at the grocery store on the way back to the hotel.  At the grocery we
bought enough food to feed 100 families of the indios people.  Pastor Pablo was to meet us at the
grocery, but we didn’t see him, so we called him.  He said that he was so hungry that he stopped to grab
a bite to eat and wouldn’t be at the grocery for 30 more minutes, but all was well.

Following the grocery we headed back to the
hotel to have lunch and to sort out the food into
individual bags for each of the l00 families.  We
asked the front desk if we could use the large
conference room to do the sorting and she said
that it was occupied for 30 more minutes, but all
was well.  So we ate lunch and then did the
sorting.

Once the sorting was finished we had a few
minutes of “free time” to get changed and ready to head off to the church service at Pastor Pablo’s other
church in Vista Mar.  Everyone was ready and waiting, but Pastor Bill, (known as “the bus driver”) wasn’t
there, so we waited 30 more minutes, No just kidding, but we did wait a few minutes!… but all was well.

We visited the church in Vista Mar, but the rains have caused the roads to be very muddy and slippery to
drive on at this time.  Also the government was working on widening the road and this did not help
matters.

After the visit to the church we headed off to get some dinner at a friend of Pastor Pablo’s who has a
small Italian Restaurant off the side of his house.  The food was exquisite and I, Aaron Ibarra, said the
blessing!  Imagine that.

It’s amazing how you can see God’s hand at work here.  The people are wonderful and kind and
beautiful just like the country.  I am so thankful that I was able to come on this mission trip and hope you
get the chance to come on one too! Dios tebendiga.

Ministry Day 3 - By Jerry & Mona
Costa Rica July 3, 2009

Today we went on our first trip to visit the Indian tribe. When we first got there Ellio, the local missionary
to the tribe, had us walk up the road to a catholic family's home to meet and minister to them. The goal is
to join the two churches to work together as one. When we left the family, they all followed us up to the
church on the hill and enjoyed the afternoon of worship, food and also received items we brought and
distributed among the tribe. Jerry and I were here in January and recognized many faces, but we also
got to meet many new ones. Words can't explain the love that surrounds these people. They have very
little, but it is obvious they are happy and very passionate about the Lord. We started the day with a
lesson for the kids presented by Tabitha and Cindi, followed by crafts and coloring. Next the kids sang
and danced for everyone, then Pastor Bill and one of the young pastors from the tribe gave a deeply
moving sermon. We then fed everyone a hot
meal of chicken & rice and passed out a bag of
food for every family, which included: 1 bag of
rice, 1 bag of beans, 1 bag of salt, 1 bottle of oil
and 2 seasoning packets. After lunch we passed
out donated clothing, toys and hygiene items.
We can tell you from our own experience when
you look upon the faces of the people here that
they appreciate us and are thankful, but what
they don't realize is they are the ones who have
blessed us. We will get to do it all over again
tomorrow with new faces and new stories to
share, we can hardly wait!

On another note, we celebrated Pastor Bill's
birthday tonight at our favorite pizza place. Diego managed to get him a cake and boy was it good!

Please keep us and the people of Costa Rica in your prayers and thoughts so we may continue to
spread God's word.
